A Final Word: Þetta Reddast

There arent enough camera angles or lenses to fully capture the in-person beauty of this place.

Iceland is a testament to the potency and endurance of Nature. It feels like what I imagine prehistoric Earth may have looked like. It is also a beautiful ode to the resilience and humility of the peoples living in this land - they are here, thriving in this chaotic and unpredictable space. It feels as though the people who live here only wish to be a part of this world and not conquerers of it. They merge into the landscape with dignity and kindness and in turn Icelandic nature provides them with mystical beauty enough for 100 lifetimes.

Our bittersweet goodbye:

Leaving Iceland, we were bade farewell by deep soft, freshly fallen, silently shimmering snow as the glowing golden sun crowned the distant silhouette of the mountains. A deep saddness filled us both as we drove through endless expanses of untouched snow, recognizing the same spots we stood just hours ago, gazing awestruck at the Auroras, now in the new day looking none the wiser of the magic from the night before. As if it never happened. Even though we had to, neither of us was ready to leave this chaotic paradise, not ready to leave the dichotomy of this harsh beauty. We know we will be back as many times as life allows us to.

Until then we leave behind nothing of ourselves and take with us shadows of our most astounding experiences to hold tightly onto lest we forget such magnificence exists in our world.

As they say in Iceland, "Þetta Reddast" : In the end, it will all be ok
